Lace dresses are everywhere. Kate Middleton wore two different ones by Canadian designer Erdem during the Royals official visit to our northern neighbor last week. One thing I love about the Duchess is that she is a frugal fashionista! Unlike many other VIP’s, Kate is often photographed wearing the same dresses, but updated with different accessories and shoes. So in her honor, our frugal fashionista challenge this time around is to find a fantastic designer lace dress for under $400.00. You may think this is an overly generous budget, but lace is delicate (read expensive) and retail prices can be upwards of $1200.00 in stores like Neiman Marcus or Bergdorfs. So, the frugal fashionista team here at UpMyAli headed to our favorite destination for designer clothes for less, TJ Maxx. In under 30 minutes, we found exactly what we were looking for:
We loved the way D&G styled this collection on the runway, which was decidedly true to its brand DNA: edgy, urban and sophisticated.
Adore! However, the hat is a bit tricky and most of us need dress options that can take us from the day to night (read no transparency). The trick to achieving this versatility is all in the styling. To cover our arms during the day, and add a bit more coverage, we added a lightweight silk-cotton ruffled pink cardigan and a urban, funky belt to balance out the sweet, feminine tones of the pink and lace.
Add a fantastic embellished open toe pump, and you are ready for the boardroom, happy hour cocktails or a romantic dinner with someone special. We chose these satin embellished pumps from Kenneth Cole Reaction, also a score from TJ Maxx:
Total TJ Maxx Investment:$429.98
The Frugal Fashionista Find Savings: $660.00
Pretty amazing? Thanks TJ Maxx! I love being on trend without breaking the bank!
