Accessorize Into Fall. Fur, Bows and Lapel Love

When sitting in the Tents at Lincoln Center one of my favorite activities to pass the time between shows is to see what accessories that fashion leaders of the world are wearing. Usually I quit this game very quickly given the overwhelming feeling of inferiority in creativity for not coming up with the idea of a chain link fence becoming a bib necklace on my own (this actually happened).  Accessories by definition are used to accessorizes or complement the fashion they are paired with.  However, in the past couple of years, accessories have taken the main stage and often times upstage the outfits they are meant to embellish.    Heading into August, I am already planning my fall wardrobe and there are so many awesome accessory trends that I am dying to try out.  Here are the top 3.

FUR: Hate it or love it, fur has been making a huge comeback over the past couple of seasons (luxury items tend to skyrocket in popularity when the economy goes south. Its like red lipstick, it just makes you feel better) and this Fall you will see it everywhere from handbags, to bracelets to necklaces and shoes:

Donna Karan FW 2011

Isaac Mizrahi

Maria Cornejo

Akong Necklace

Alexander Wang

BOWS REPLACE NECKLACES: If you want to update your look and love the idea of adorning your neck, eschew the necklace and instead steal of piece of ribbon from your daughter and tie a very feminine bow around the neck of your favorite blouse.

Ruffian

Yigal Azrouel

Jason Wu

Tory Burch

UNIQUE PENDANTS AND BROOCHES: In line with the overall trend of feminine, adorned and sometimes satirical fashion, channel the 1960’s, grab a martini and pin on a fabulous brooch:

Bottega Veneta

Oscar de la Renta

Willfredo Rosado

So many choices, I already am pulling out my ladylike blouses from storage and polishing my lapels in preparation for that INCREDIBLE Bottega brooch.  In fact, the eye is a huge trend in both costume and fine jewelry right now.   Sure its somewhat freaky to have an eye staring at you all day, but when you’re wearing it, the eye actually watches everyone else!  Get ready to be the center of conversation.

  1. Love the Alexander Wang heels, amazing! JS x

  2. Thanks for reading the post and leaving feedback. I agree that Alex is killing it in accessories. I guess that why he is CFDA accessory designer of the year!
